Would anyone care to share thier thoughts on the Advatages and Disadvantages of using either 1 dkp system or using a separate 1 for each Instance/Raid

Our guild uses one DKP system only, and it applies to all 40-man raids. We are currently running MC, Onyxia, BWL, and AQ40 on a weekly basis, so the same totals are used for all 4 places. I think this works out for us because we are a small guild (only 38 members) and don't have that many people to keep track of.

Our 20-man raids don't use DKP at all, we just collectively decide who should get the items, or we free-roll them off. Again, I think this works well for us because we are a small guild whose members know each other pretty well and loot is usually not an issue.

I have heard of larger guilds using one DKP system for 40-man raids and one for 20-mans. I've also read about guilds that use a different DKP system for each instance...but I think they have either lots and lots of members or too much time on their hands.
We use one dkp chart for each of the instances that we are actively raiding. 20 and 40 man alike have a dkp chart. We do this so that someone doesn't raid the "easy" instances a lot and rack up a lot of dkp and then use that dkp when we down a boss for the first time and snatch up the choicest lootz.

If you are pounding away at a new instance to learn that instance and defeat it, you should be the one to get the lootz, not the guy who came along when you downed that "problem" boss.

It doesn't take any longer than running one dkp chart. Well ok, you do have to select which dkp chart to use when you upload etc, but it is easy enough.

We use 1 system to rule them all.
Advantage
Easy to track and manage
Works well for casual gamers that we have some of as they can raid any instance and get DKP

Disadvantage
Loot distribution. As Carlpalmer stated those that do raid a lot can rack of DKP out of the 20 mans and buy all their tier 1/2 sets right off the bat from the 40's though the value of DKP versus loot is set such that it reflects the different and it takes 3 20 man runs to be able to buy 1 piece from a 40. We also constantly as officers preech loot rotation and fairness to people and encourage them to let others that might be less well off than them have a shot at somethings. We keek class channels open as much as possible to let people discuss amongst their peers what they want or need. We try to discourage minor upgrades versus major. Why take an Epic to replace an Epic in most cases when someone else might be going from a really good green or blue to an epic. So far it has only bitten us once when a class passed on Tier2 pants for pants that drop from Jindo. The disavantage of it was that they were better for a shadow priest that really don't have a set per say and thus the shadow priest got shafted.

Six Demon BagRefresh This Item
Jack Burton: Hey, what more can a guy ask for?
Egg Shen: Oh, a six-demon bag!
Jack Burton: Terrific, a six-demon bag. Sensational. What's in it, Egg?
Egg Shen: Wind, fire, all that kind of thing!
We're using the 1 dkp system but scaling the boss kill points based upon the instance.

ZG = .25 (Hakkar is double)
AQ20 = .5 (Osserian is double)
MC = 1 (Domo is 2 when chest drops, Rags is 4)
BWL = 2 (Chromaggus is 4, Nef is 8)

So, as you can see from this scale, they're earning minimal dkp from the 20 man instances but enough so that they're inclined to go with fair reglarity. But those who REALLY raid in the 40 man's gain signigificant advantage rather quickly. We rarely if ever have someone come into a fresh boss kill having not participated in some fashion to get us there.

Domo always drops a chest? Unless you /snub him, then he jumps into the lava and you can't summon rag. Sadfacery abounds.

haha NO... if you kill Domo on day one (chest drops), But you don't get Rag's down. Then next day you have to come back and kill Domo again... but this time he doesn't drop a chest. Then you go on to kill Rags... or not, rinse, repeat.
