hey chops,

in some thread i noticed u changed to code for the cookies the site saves. now i have a question: is this also for the remembering to auto login? i got mozilla firefox and it always remembered i clicked save password and i was always logged in when i got to the site but now i always have to login manually over and over again... is this my machine ? didn't change a thing and it only started after this maintenance.. or is it something else?

I changed the cookies a few weeks ago, but I haven't changed anything in the maintenance. One change that I made, however, for security, is that the login and cookie are now tied to your IP address, so if your IP changes, you'll have to log in.

Ahh...that would definitely explain it. The reason, of course, is for security. Before, the security of the cookies weren't exactly fool-proof.

If someone were able to get a copy of your PHP Session cookie or login and password cookies, they could effectively log in as you, which is dangerous. The new approach ties the Session with the IP as well as the cookies with the IP so that logging in as someone else is vastly more difficult. However, as is typical with increased security, that means the interface has become a little less friendly.
