Cannot get the uploader to load the file. I figure I am doing something wrong, but the file is not in saved variables.

You've got two options here:

1) You could modify the template to remove that particular tag that's creating the logo

2) Or, you could upload the attached file as your logo, which is a single pixel transparent GIF file.
