Thanks,
I'm trying to determine the cause of the slowdown. But I appreciate you keeping on me.
It's oddly fickle, and there isn't a noticeable pattern to it all (like right now is basically peak time, and the site is not running slowly at all), and nothing in the architecture or code has changed in such a way that would affect the slowdown.
So I make a configuration change, and then see what happens for a day or two, then make another tweak, and observe for another day.
I'm wondering if perhaps the VMs that I'm on are getting bogged down, overallocated, or their storage system is running slowly, and we're not getting told.
The system load when things are slow is all still low: CPU and RAM allocation are low, the database servers are responding quickly, but requests are just being handled slowly.
If this continues for much longer, I may experiment with another data center switch (It's been 7 years since the last time I moved data centers, but at least now everything is mostly done with virtual machines instead of having to lug around a pile of computers from one location to another).
Anyway, I just wanted you to know that I'm very much aware of it, and I'm working on it.
And that I'm terribly sorry that this is happening - alas, the mysteries of not owning all the hardware, this was one of the only reservations about switching to a mostly-VM-based hosting system.
