Description:
The options section for a new thread is not intuitive at all. Even if you know what you're doing you can still mess it up because it's just doesn't have a good layout that flows with what's going on.
Right now the layout looks kind of like this:
Primary Thread Tag
ThreadTagDropDown
Poll []
Private Thread []
Disable Smilies []
Secondary Thread Tags
[] TagA
[] TagB
[] TagC
[] TagD
[] TagE
The most common mistake I see is that members are clicking on a listed secondary thread tag. The second most common error I see is not setting a primary guild tag. The third complaint I've had & heard is creating a private thread but not also setting members... and also the confusion over whether or not it's actually private if the primary tag is still set to something else.
The other two options are generally not messed up (Poll & Disable Smilies).
I suggest that this be changed to look more like this:
This
IS NOT
a private thread.
This thread has the following primary thread tag: TagA
This thread has the following secondary thread tag: TagB
Poll [] Disable Smilies[]
Each of these would be DHTML (orwhatever) secion that pops open when clicked. So for example, if someone wanted to change the primary thread tag:
This
IS NOT
a private thread.
This thread has the following primary thread tag: TagA
Select the primary thread tag you would like to use:
O TagA
O TagB
O TagC
O TagD
O TagE
This thread has the following secondary thread tag: TagB
Poll [] Disable Smilies[]
The O is a radio button :P
Or let's say they have both sections open:
This
IS NOT
a private thread.
This thread has the following primary thread tag: TagA
Select the primary thread tag you would like to use:
O TagA
O TagB
O TagC
O TagD
O TagE
This thread has the following secondary thread tag: TagB
Select the secondary thread tags you would like to use:
[] TagA
[] TagB
[] TagC
[] TagD
[] TagE
Poll [] Disable Smilies[]
Also... Private Thread behavior...
This
IS
a private thread.
[x] Make this a private thread and
select the members who will be included
.
This thread has the following primary thread tag: TagA
This thread has the following secondary thread tag: TagB
Poll [] Disable Smilies[]
When a user selects that something becomes a private thread ... disable the primary and secondary thread tag sections, and leave the "select members" link in the normal size font instead of making the link so tiny that it's usually missed.
