It can, but not automatically. You'll need to type /grss snapshotname when you want to take a non-raid snapshot. Items are still recorded regardless of the group size.

ie, say you kill Murmur in a group, you can type

/grss murmur

Thanks, Chops. As you might have guessed, we're just in the process of configuring our DKP system so some of these questions will be noobish. Nevertheless, how would the raid leader use /grss <snapshotname> for a non-raid instance? Would s/he take a snapshop after each fight, after each boss, only at the end of the run, at the beginning...?

It depends on how you want to award points. Some guilds do hourly, some guilds do by boss. If you want to give points per boss kill, the snapshot after the boss dies. If you want to give points hourly, then take hourly snapshots.

If you are not in a raid, it will not take a snapshot, so you have to be in a raid, then you cant do the quests, am i correct with this or doing something wrong

You can take snapshots in a non-raid group. This was changed several versions ago (maybe something like 3 months ago)
