Hi,

One of my users with an email account @comcast.net is having a problem validating his account. When he follows the link in the email, he goes to url http://www.trpguild.com/validate.php?email=<snip>@comcast.net&validation=60ef1

He gets the following error: Validation Failed, sorry! Either you've already been validated, or the link you followed was invalid.

I've double checked, and he's NOT validated. Even if I change the email address on this account (so he can register a different user), he gets the same error.

Any clues?

I went ahead and added a question to the FAQ to attempt to answer this rather common problem (especially with comcast).

I'll copy and paste it here for you:

This is a problem that's attributed largely to Comcast. What's happening is the validation URL is getting cut in half.

The url should look something like

http://yourguild.dkpsystem.com/validation.php?email=someone(at)something.com&validation=abdcefg123

The problem comes in, when the email provider decides it's a good idea to automatically cut the line in half, forcing what's called a hard wrap.

When this happens, the URL above turns into something more like this

http://http://yourguild.dkpsystem.com/validation.php?email=someone(at)something.com&val
idation=abdcefg123

or even more unnoticable:

http://yourguild.dkpsystem.com/validation.php?email=someone(at)something.com&validation=abdcefg1

If this is the case, check your validation email for any characters that look "out of place" like in the second example, the 23 doesn't look like it belongs and try to piece the URL back together with copy and paste, in effect "fixing" the "broken URL" by putting the pieces back together and forming the full URL of:

http://yourguild.dkpsystem.com/validation.php?email=someone(at)something.com&validation=abdcefg123

I double checked with him, and I don't believe the URl is getting truncated. Any other ideas?

Hmm....wierd.

A few days ago, I made a change to shorted the URL so it shouldn't be a problem at all. Have him do the "password recovery" process and enter his email, and it should send him a new validation URL that he can try. Hopefully that works for him.
