When a new window is called, is it possible to have it propagate another window instead of using the current one open?

Example:

You have the chat window open, your browsing the forums and wish to see the results of a poll. You click the poll, it uses the currently open chat window, effectivly closing the chat room.

Whoa. I was unaware of this. I try to make them all open in seperate windows, but I must have missed it with the chat and view poll answers.
