Interestingly enough, the original thread tag design did use only Checkboxes, but it proved to be extremely tedius if you just wanted to view a single thread tag.
While reworking the thread tag stuff last night, I figured that adding the checkboxes back as a "tab" so to speak might be an option we can go with there.
I'll have to give it some thought, but yeah, being able to see a subset of the tags that are more relevant to you would definitely be convenient.
