As you've likely seen, we've had some downtime today. This was largely due to the overwhelming amount of traffic caused by WoW extended maintenance (which is still not completed).
Unfortunately, unlike most maintenances (where we see a bit of slowdown, but the site remains functional), this ended up being unusually excessive (largely due to the fact that WoW activity is increasing rapidly for the launch of WotLK tomorrow evening at midnight).
As a result, the sites stopped responding, and we had to bring up the "Emergency Maintenance" message. The first time this happened, we got everything back to normal, and tried again. About an hour later it got worse, and we had to bring them back offline again for further attempts at optimization. This time it took us a little longer to get thing sorted out and back online.
Admitteldly most of the servers were acting EXTREMELY funny, and we had to reboot a few of them to get them acting right again.
Things are still a bit slow, but they should dissapate as soon as the WoW servers come back on (which is hopefully soon). In the meantime, we're still working to get things faster.
All Accounts will be given a 5-day extension for this unfortunate downtime.
Yes, I expect Blizzard will credit our accounts as well.
Thank you Chops, it is appreciated even though I think pretty much everyone knew exactly why you were having troubles yesterday. At least, those of us who play WoW did!
