For those of you that may not have gotten it, or who might wish to discuss details, here's the newsletter that went out around Midnight (CDT) this morning:
Good Evening DKPSystem.com Member!
We've dropped our prices! To celebrate our 2-year anniversary (May 2008), we've dropped our prices. This isn't a sale, this is an overall price drop. Our Base System remains at $20/year, but all the addon packages have been dropped from $30/year to $20/year.
Aside from that, we've been very busy at DKPSystem.com, making constant improvements and adding new features. For those that haven't noticed the changes since our last newsletter (several months ago), I thought I'd let you all know of the major updates since then. At the end of this newsletter I'll talk a bit about our upcoming features.
1) We've added many new drop-in templates (And we're working frantically on more). You can see our newest templates on your site by going to Admin > Layout > Drop-In Templates, or you can see the previews of our Templates on DKPSystem.com here (
http://www.dkpsystem.com/admintemplate.php ). Drop-In Templates are advanced templates specially built for guilds to quickly give their site a professional edge, and ours are are exclusive to DKPSystem.com.
2) The forum system had a major update in late January. This update further extended our revolutionary system, Thread Tags, to allow threads to have Secondary Thread Tags. This gives you unprecedented control over your forum capabilities. The forum also had a number of user-interface improvement, to make the overall experience smoother. All of the new functionality is described in our article "About Our Forums":
http://www.dkpsystem.com/dynpage.php?id=133) In March we added support for quite a few more games that we had not previously supported: Planetside, Tabula Rasa, Hellgate: London, Age of Conan, and Pirates of the Burning Sea. Warhammer Online was already supported.
4) We've deployed our long overdue Layout Guide (located at
http://www.dkpsystem.com/guide/Layoutguide ), which details nearly every aspect of the DKPSystem.com layout system. From the basics with changing your logo and color scheme, to changing the CSS, to outright rebuilding your site from scratch with HTML. We've included documentation for every command in our Advanced Layout Options, complete with examples and code walkthroughs. We've also provided a list of all the special CSS classes and IDs you'll need to change your layout without having to dive into the HTML. Even if you know nothing about coding, you'll find tutorials, book recommendations, and more to help you quickly learn coding so you can make your site exactly as personal as you need it to be. If you wish to contribute to the Layout Guide, please contact us to express your interest.
5) The bosses and items have been preloaded for the new Sunwell Plateau raid zone in World of Warcraft.
6) Our GuildRaidSnapShot and DKPProfiler mods for World of Warcraft have been updated for the 2.4 patch
For those of you that follow the changes we do closely (
http://www.dkpsystem.com/dynpage.php?id=11 ), that was old news. What you're probably more interested in is the coming updates and what we have slated for development in the coming weeks and months.
1) You may have seen the "major update" alluded to on our forums here and there. We're expecting this to be ready early-to-mid May. It's the most ambitious update we've done since launch, and will yet again distinguish DKPSystem.com as the innovative leader in guild hosting.
So what is?
In short: Multi-game, multi-guild, multi-roster sites!
This means that adding support for another game to your site is as easy and choosing it from a list. You can then maintain a separate roster for characters in that game, or separate rosters for other guilds. This functionality gives you unprecedented control over your site. As a practical example, lets assume your guild plays "Everquest" primarily, however, your same group has a lot of "Enemy Territory: Quake Wars" players that like to play together. You can add profiles for those Quake Wars characters, completely customized to that game, and you can add a separate roster for the "Quake Wars" players. In addition to this, we're adding some FPS/RTS specific functionality with this deployment (Match history).
We're in the home stretch, and hopefully it'll be ready very soon. As stated, our time-frame is estimated at mid-May.
2) After our "major update" the next major project will be our "Advanced Layout Options" for the forums and news. This will allow you to further customize the major specific high-traffic parts of the site.
3) The GuildRaidSnapShot mod will be getting a more complete in-game calculation interface, allowing users to award DKP, and make adjustments in-game, rather than waiting for the end of the raid to do this. This will effectively make the GRSS mod work as a standalone mod, which can then be uploaded every few days, rather than after every raid (though it'll always be recommended to upload after every raid).
4) While Warhammer Online is still many months away, will be building in-game mods for it, just like we did for WoW. We can do this because Warhammer's modding support will be comparable to WoW's allowing us to build powerful in-game interfaces. While there isn't a ton of data available, when Warhammer's Open Beta starts, we'll be diving right in and getting it supported.
Hopefully this information was enough to whet your appetite. When we launch the multi-game update, we'll send out more details. A few days before we deploy it, we'll send out an update with the projected maintenance schedule, as with a change of this magnitude, we'll unquestionably have to take the servers down for several hours while we deploy them.
Thank you for being a part of the DKPSystem.com network, and as always, if you have any issues, comments, questions, or complaints, please let us know.
